Toronto in Ink is a Tattoo Artist Archive developed by my colleague Yuqi Liang and I for a digital history course titled Creating and Protecting Digital Artifacts. We collaborated with four GTA based artists to curate an archive around The growing tattooing community in the city. This project received a grade of 100% for its final submission towards a digital history course at UTM.
About Toronto in Ink
Welcome! This website is an archive of Toronto's tattoo artists community. In this archive, you can find diverse information about the tattoo industry through the eyes of the Great Toronto Area based independent tattoo artists - their artistic evolution and journeys.
You can navigate the archive by the studio, artist, and tattoo style, allowing you to explore their stories and artifacts through these lenses.
We hope to spread appreciation for the work and skills Toronto tattoo artists embody in a way they want to be represented. Amid pervasive tattoo copying, this is an exercise of understanding how artists what to be portrayed and credited.
Through the artifacts on this archive, you will learn about their styles and workflows through their work, both as sketches and final product, their flash sheets, workstations and other personal artifacts.
This archive documents the art and journeys of Toronto's independent tattoo artists as they make their mark of the bodies that move around this bustling city.
